There are some great amazing dive spots on Andalucia’s coastline. The waters here are bursting with life - extremely rich in flora and fauna.

It’s a completely different world under the surface of the sea. You’ll find hundreds of things to see and explore, especially if you are diving close to where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean waters meet in Andalusia, Spain.

Travel east and the coastline becomes a lot more rugged and is home to a wide variety underwater landscapes and marine life. Cabo de Gata, in Almeria, and Almuñecar on the Costa Tropical are particularly good.

The waters near Gibraltar are well known for having a number of interesting shipwrecks. Marine life is bountiful. Expect to see: conger eels, squid, cuttlefish, spider crabs, lobster, trigger fish, sunfish, dolphins and possibly even a whale or two!

There are plenty of dive schools on both the Atlantic and Mediterranean side of Andalucía’s coastline. The most popular school is PADI - Professional Association of Diving Instructors and it’s well recommended.

The PADI Open Water Diver certificate has three separate sections:
1. Classroom session
2. Confined Water (practice in the swimming pool)
3. Four open water dives with the instructor

Once you’ve done the course you’ll get your official PADI Open Water Diver card.
This will allow you to buy or rent scuba equipment, dive from charter boats and at dive resorts, and dive without an instructor present.

From here, you can try for the more advanced qualifications like advanced open water diver all the way up to dive master and beyond…
